Summary:
This Special Issue of Near Surface Geophysics, titled “Quantitative Geophysical Characterisation ofMarineNear-Surface”, is motivated by recent advances in the application of quantitative geophysical methods (both seismic and non-seismic) to marine shallow subsurface problems. As demonstrated through multiple extended abstracts, presentations and dynamic open-floor discussions at the highly successful EAGE Applied and Shallow Marine Geophysics conference series in Athens (2014), Barcelona (2016) and Porto (2018), as well as the recent EAGE Workshop “Seismic inversion for marine overburden characterisation” in London (2019), the quantitative assessment of in situ ground conditions is currently a hot topic within industry and academic circles.
