Summary:
Although separate phase flow must be attributed the dominant role in hydrocarbon migration, molecular transport (diffusion) has been suggested to play an important role under specific conditions. The rate and efficiency, in particular of diffusive gas losses from reservoirs remains, however, a matter of dispute.
