Summary:
Gaussian packets method describes the propagation of Gaussian-like wave packets. In this paper, we present a new method which can simulate the Green function generated by any source function by means of integrating the Green functions generated by Gabor source functions, while it’s proved that Green function corresponding to a given Gabor source function can be calculated with Gaussian packets. We simulate seismic wave propagation in a smoothed Marmousi model and compare the wavefield with that simulated by the finite-difference solution to a constant-density acoustic wave equation. We also test Gaussian packets migration with a complex velocity model. Numerical experiments demonstrate the validity of Gaussian packets modeling and migration.
