Summary:
As is well known, reservoir heterogeneities occur over a wide range of scales. The seismic wave propagation is itself affected by the heterogeneities. However, only a small number of experiments on physical models were carried out for studying the imaging characteristics of heterogeneities. And no heterogeneous model containing two kinds of random distributed heterogeneities has ever been studied. Our work has just made some effort to fill this gap. We have gotten 2D P-wave data for two kinds of heterogeneous structures in a 3D heterogeneous sand-layer physical model. Typical single shot records and minimum offset gathers have been chosen for imaging analysis. Reverse time migration imaging technique has been successful used on the recording data. By researching we find that: Each of the heterogeneities in the model is equal to a diffractor; RTM method is an effective way to deal with heterogeneous structure; Small scale heterogeneities will enhance the penetrability of seismic wave.
