Summary:
A tool has been developed for constructing stochastic models of reservoir faults containing a realistic, quantitatively constrained extrapolation to sub-seismic scales of the larger scale, seismically resolvable fault segmentation. The resultant segmented fault zone models contain 3D fault zone components (breached and intact relay zones) that provide cross-fault and along-fault flow paths of potential important to exploration, appraisal and development modelling studies. Geometrical upscaling is a group of methods for including these flow paths in full-field reservoir flow simulation models, and the merits of two new geometrical upscaling methods are compared. A new practical reservoir modelling workflow integrating the developments is described.
