Summary:
4D seismic is a key decision-making tool for reservoir management, helping secure the predicted production profiles and reducing operational risk. The 4D value can be improved using available and continuously improved technology but lies in our ability to make quick and good decisions. This requires reflecting on how we work and identify key areas which will improve the 4D acquisition and processing to help the interpreter realize the full potential of the 4D seismic data. Better collaboration between disciplines as well as fit for purpose technical solutions are the main contributors to serve this goal. In this paper, we highlight the efforts in 4D acquisition (SI noise optimization) and processing of ocean bottom cable and streamer data (focusing on specific processing steps and adoption of a reference flow) that led to improved turn-around and data quality over the Gullfaks field in 2016 and their direct impact on the well planning.
