Summary:
In the aim to contribute to identify the capacity of Rayleigh waves for underground cavities detection, we propose a combined approach based on numerical and experimental data obtained in a reduced-scale laboratory. We propose to calculate the H/V ratio of the wave field in presence of a void. First, the study is conducted on a homogeneous model. It shows that the positions of H/V anomalies depend on the cavity depth and are invariant with the diameter of the cavity. The results are then confirmed in an experimental bi-layer model. Thus, the H/V ratio seems to be a robust observable for cavity detection.
