Summary:
We make artificial oil sands samples from the smashed powder of the oil sands core, and then compare with the natural samples. The samples are measured under different temperature and pressure conditions, and the comparisons reveal that even the sands’ original frame was completely destroyed, the artificial samples show similar velocities and Vp/Vs ratios as the original samples, which may suggest that the oil sands’ properties are mainly dependent on oil properties, rather than sand frame.
