Summary:
We present several new downward continuation methods based on numerical solution of the mean-value theorem (NSMV). The proposed methods, by using vertical derivative in NSMV, are convergent and accurate. Meanwhile, these processes are not sensitive to noise and have little boundary effect. The NSMV for downward continuation is applied to the synthetic data to obtain precise results and discriminate small scale sources. We also give a real example of the NSMV for downward continuation. Compared with the original lower fields, the character of the fading anomalies of upper level emerges properly in downward continuation results.
