Summary:
Produced water generated during oil and gas production pose a great concern to the industry. Gel treatment is one of the effective methods to reduce excessive water production in hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this work, the evolution of properties of a number of synthetic porous media when subjected to gel injection process were investigated using a combination of laboratory tests and the computed tomography (CT) method. The results show that the CT images of the unaltered and altered samples provided the same lab-based findings and also some other results which cannot be obtained using the traditional laboratory experiments.
