Summary:
Today much attention is paid to the possibility of in-situ hydrocarbons generation from oil shale formations. The method proposed in this paper is based on the use of hydropyrolysis or pyrolysis reactions in the presence of water. It has been experimentally shown in a number of studies that water at high temperature acts simultaneously as a hydrogen donor, catalyst, and solvent. The advantage of using water is also the possibility of using it as a displacing agent. The presence of water reduces the degree of coking and the gas fraction in products (secondary cracking). Experiments showed that the optimal temperature of thermal treatment is 350℃, when the maximum yield of liquid hydrocarbons is observed. In our opinion, the most promising technology of in-situ hydrocarbons generation from the oil shale the cyclic injection of subcritical water.
