Specific fluorescent layers of the Bazhenov formation were characterized using macroscopic and microscopic studies and by Rock Eval pyrolysis, bulk kinetics, elementary and FTIR analysis. Results from luminescent microscopy show that the thin specific layers contain an extremely high amount of fluorescing alginite material compared to unfluorescent host rocks of the Bazhenov formation with type II kerogen. Geochemical studies show that organic matter of the specific fluorescent layers corresponds to type I kerogen. The specific layers may be used for detailed stratigraphic studies and section correlation of neighborhood wells.
