Summary:
This is a critical time in the history of the profession of exploration geophysics, and especially for the anisotropic specialists contributing to this special issue. Today, the world is awash with copious supplies of oil, and so the price of oil is low, and so many geophysical jobs have disappeared. This forms the context in which the 18th InternationalWorkshop on Seismic Anisotropy was recently held, in the hills above Jerusalem. Contributions from that workshop are included in this special issue of Geophysical Prospecting.
